Morning announcements are one of the few moments when an entire school receives the same information at the same time. If that message only exists in English, part of the building is hearing something they have to translate in their head — or that they miss entirely.

The gap: the hallway hears one language

Schools have gotten much better at reaching families in multiple languages. Reaching students inside the building is a different problem, and it is usually solved much less well.

An announcement about a schedule change, a fire drill, or where to go at dismissal is delivered once, in English, to everyone. Students still learning English, and students who arrived recently, are left doing real-time translation in a noisy hallway — or quietly missing the instruction.

Why in-building translation is different from parent messaging

Most tools schools use for translation are family-engagement platforms. They send text messages, emails, and app notifications to a parent or guardian. That work is valuable, and it solves a genuine problem — but it reaches homes, not hallways.

It cannot help a student who is standing in a corridor during a drill, does not have a phone, or is at school while a parent is at work. In-building audio and parent messaging are complementary, not interchangeable, and only one of them is in the room when the announcement happens.

How it works

Students do not need a device, an app, or an account. The message arrives through the speakers the building already uses, which is what makes it reach everyone in range rather than only those who opted into a platform.
